Listening is more than just hearing someone, it is about understanding them as well. And sometimes, understanding simply must come from communicating in the same language. With that in mind, Williams Sound is reinventing the art of listening with the introduction of the new Convey room translator. Convey was designed to enable integrators to easily add translation technology to an audio system design.
Convey is a real-time translation system. Setup begins with the end user selecting one source language and one target language. English, for example, can easily be translated to any of the 21 available languages. Convey is based on a NVIDA Jetson AI platform which delivers 472 GFLOPS of compute performance with a quad-core 64-bit ARM CPU and a 128-core integrated NVIDIA GPU.
It also includes 4GB LPDDR4 memory and runs on a Linux/Ubuntu OS. The key to the success of the translation is the real-time audio processing that occurs between the Convey CPU and the Google AI cloud. The Convey manages the outgoing encoded language stream to the Google Cloud and then the outgoing decoded audio translated stream back to the listener.
Convey can be designed for integration into any professional audio system where real-time interpretation is required. A balanced analog audio input/output or digital USB 3.0 I/O allows maximum flexibility in integrating with other audio equipment. The Convey system can be programmed on the fly to support any language requirement. Events with multiple language requirements will require one Convey unit per language.
The new WaveCAST app provides an easy-to-use, intuitive user interface and is available in iOS or Android. Listeners easily select channel and volume level once their personal device is connected to the Wi-Fi network.
